If you’re going to be gone from civilization, it should all go mobile. Train and practice to carry it. This is what’s recommended, but you may have something else in mind. Remember once gas and fuel is gone, you’re on foot, if you can’t carry it, it’s not going with you and that piece of gear is worthless at that point.
Here’s two examples of packs with frames. You can train to carry these or buy a weighted vest (available on Ebay) that will gradually work you up from 10# to 60# over time…putting that weighted vest on and doing a couple miles every night is good exercise and training.
Also night vision is an edge that most will ignore. If you have Gen 2, Gen 2+ or Gen 3, you will rule the night. Not only will it make moving in complete darkness a possibility, should you get ambushed in the darkness you’ll have the edge. Give it some thought, it’s an expensive investment, but all it takes is that one encounter to pay off. Semper fi.

If you do go for nightvision, Armasight has some of the more reliable units. First generation systems (Gen 1) are consumer quality, lower priced and will do in a pinch…if you can go Gen 2+, you’ll be on par with most military and law enforcement in the field…price is 3-4x that of a Gen 1 on average.
